NAP of Sustainable Palm oil Does Not Give Solution to the Root

InfoSAWIT, BOGOR – In the recent day, President Joko Widodo signed the policy which has something to do with sustainable palm oil industries. It was in the form of President’s Instruction No. 6 / 2019 about the National Action Plan of Sustainable Palm Oil in 2019 -2014 or Rencana Aksi Nasional Perkebunan Kelapa Sawit Berkelanjutan Tahun 2019 – 2024 (RAN KSB). It has five mandates which were instructed to twelve institutions to be executed based on their each job, function, and authority.

Executive Director of Sawit Watch, Inda Fatinaware said that based on the analysis there are many issues in palm oil industries do not have solutions by the policy, such as, the smallholders and the agrarian conflict in the plantations. To realize sustainable plantations, it should accomplish the basic issues.

“We also focus about the definition about the agrarian conflict in the president’s instruction. We know that it defines the agrarian conflict is about land or area issue. Kinds of conflict in the plantations have typologies, such as, the partnership, the labors and the companies. The conflicts should be accomplished by the president’s instruction,” she said as in the official statement to InfoSAWIT recently.

The Labor Specialist of Sawit Watch, Zidane said that the president’s instruction does not solve the labor issues, such as, the work, the freedom to make union, the health assurance. The three are not mentioned or discussed in the instruction to sustainable palm oil plantations.

“The coalition of palm oil labors told the documents about the facts of the labors. The documents should actually be the referencs to know the issue in the plantation,” he who is also as the coordinator in Koalisi Buruh Sawit (KBS) said. (T2)
