InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA - District of Kutai Kartanegara and Penajam Paser Utara that would be the capitals of Indonesia developed palm oil. But the limited areas to palm oil plantations made the two focuses to mining and other services.

Kutai Kartanegara itself was part of palm oil plantation development when Perkebunan Inti Rakyat (PIR) run in 1983/1984. The government big companies, PT. Perkebunan (PTP) VI developed palm oil plantation, and rubber plantations in the district. Now PTP VI has become PT. Perkebunan Negara XIII. The government company now manages 6 units of palm oil plantations which reach 17.236 hectares.

Kutai Kartanegara had the economic progress in the first place. The people’s plantations are better than those in other districts. Until now the district is the second biggest one that has widest palm oil plantations in the province reaching about 191.363 hectares.

District of Penajam Paser Utara itself was the division of Kutai Kartanegara in the beginning. Though it has its own tribe, but the development was left behind.

Furthermore Penajam Paser Utara has plantation areas about 66.225 hectares and most of the people there depend on palm oil, rubber, coconut, cocoa, pepper, and coffee. The palm oil plantations are more than 49 thousand hectares.(T1)
