Palm Oil Moratorium is about the Canopy 16,38 million hectares

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA - After Palm oil Moratorium was published, the government directly did coordination through Coordinator Ministry in Economy, namely about the same width of palm oil plantations.

Deputy Assistant of Forestry Governance, Coordinator Ministry in Economy, Prabianto Mukti Wibowo told that there are many numbers of palm oil plantation width.

That is why the data needs consolidation and published as the numbers with the field width. For example, based on the statistic data of palm oil plantations in 2017, the width reached 12,32 million hectares.

In 2018, there were some revisions done by General Directorate of Plantation, Ministry of Agriculture to be 14,03 million hectares or increased about 1,71 million hectares in a year.

Days before, Corruption Eradication Commission (CEC) released that the palm oil plantation width in Indonesia reached 15,7 million hectares. The numbers were different from what the non-government organization released which used the spatial approach which mentioned that the width reached about 16,8 million ha.

Geospatial Information Bureau or Badan Informasi Geospasial (BIG) also released the plantation width based on the CSRT interpretation in Indonesia (Ex.Java and Papua) which reached 17,93 million hectares. Based on the license data (business rights and plantation business rights) published by General Directorate of Plantation, Ministry of Agriculture, the total width covered ± 20 million hectares .

That is why, he continued, the first thing to do to implement the policy is by making the width data that many sides would accept. The government determined the palm oil plantation width from the Geospatial Information Bureau, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, and CEC/Yayasan Kehati.

From the three sources of data, the palm oil plantations reached about 21,83 million ha, but only 88% percent of the numbers are valid after reviewing the numbers and using the satellite image, and overlay.

There were three topologies of data, they are, the first, palm oil plantations done by the three sources of data reached about 2,16 million hectares; the second, palm oil plantations mapped by two sources of data reached about 11,81 million hectares; and the third, palm oil mapped by one source of data reached 7,86 million hectares.

He also said that the reconciliation of palm oil plantation canopy was done by consolidating thee canopy in the plantations nationally which derived from kinds of geospatial,/thematic map information which also derived from ministries/institutions.

“The reconciliation result of the canopy width in palm oil plantations nationally in 2019 reached about 16,38 million hectares,” he said in the Diskusi Pojok Iklim in Jakarta where InfoSAWIT did attend. (T2)
