Samade Supports to Make the Briquette Charcoal from Empty Buches as the Alternative Income

InfoSAWIT, RIAU – The fluctuation of crude palm oil (CPO) price in the world implicates to the fresh fruit bunch (FFB) price of the independent smallholders. Though in some few months it got better, it could be possible to be cheaper again.

After the FFB increased since November 2019 reaching up to Rp 2.000/Kg, in February 2020, it is about Rp 1.800/Kg and could always be like that.

Knowing it, the independent smallholders in Sawitku Masa Depanku (Samade) encouraged increase the smallholders’ income by developing Usaha Mikro, Kecil, Menengah (UMKM) by advantaging the empty bunches to be the briquette charcoal.

It is hoped to substitute the gas to cook the daily needs of the smallholders. It is also done knowing that the government plans to take the subsidized gas and be potential to export to substitute the wood charcoal and coal briquette.

Vice Chairman of Samade, Pahala Sibuea said that knowing the chance, his side did workshop “Penguatan UMKM Sawit Dengan Pembuatan Arang Briket dari Tandan Kosong Kelapa Sawit”, on 8 February 2020 in the hall of PT Perkebunan Nusantara (PTPN) V in Pekanbaru.

“56 smallholders from the groups and unions in Samade and the plasma smallholders developed by PTPN V, attended the event,” he said, as in the official statement to InfoSAWIT recently.

It was done by the cooperation among Samade, Palm oil Plantation Fund Management Agency, Pusat Penelitan Kelapa Sawit (PPKS), and PTPN V.

He also hoped that after the workshop was done, the smallholders could practice it and the help to machine to make briquette charcoal. “Samade as the coordinator of the workshop would follow up to empower the small and middle business,” he said. (T2)
