InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – The commercial palm oil plantation started in 1911 in North Sumatera. Based on the statistic from Plantation Agency, North Sumatera province, the crude palm oil export reached US$ 4 billion per year in average during 2012 to 2017. The plantations and the factories could hire about 702 thousand workers and the plantations were in 14 districts.
The palm oil plantations in the province reached 1.256.808 hectares (ha). 505.882,84 ha or about 40% were cultivated by the private plantation companies; about 26% or 321,663,85 ha were cultivated by the re-plate companies, and about 34% or 429.261,31 ha were the people’s.
The crude palm oil (CPO) production reached 1.456.710,07 tons deriving from the people’s plantations. 2.965.333,85 tons derived from the private and the government’s plantations.
To develop the sustainable palm oil potential, based on what InfoSAWIT got, the provincial government of North Sumatera has made Forum Kelapa Sawit Berkelanjutan Indonesia (FoKSBI) which is coordinated by Plantation Agency, North Sumatera. This is based on the Decision of Governor of South Sumatera No. 188 44 343 /2018 on 7 November 2018. The regulation is the evidence of commitment to develop the sustainable palm oil plantation in Indonesia and to realize the sustainable development goals (SDGs).
