Be Aware, Some Palm oil Plantation Centers Start to Dry

InfoSAWIT, MEDAN – The small intensity of rain in March 2020 takes place in some palm oil plantation centers in Riau and North Sumatera.

Referring to what InfoSAWIT got from Pusat Penelitian Kelapa Sawit (PPKS) Medan, the palm oil plantations could be in dry if one of four criteria of the drought is happening in the plantations, such as, the rain is less 1250 milimeter (mm)/year; the second, water deficit is more or equal to 200 mm; the third, the drought in a month is less than 60 mm/month) more than or equal to three (3) months; and the fourth, the dry spell is more than or equal to 20 (twenty) days.

Some anticipation to the drought in palm oil plantations covers the nursery and fertilizer should be minimized or postponed, unless weed and pest control needs to do.

“It needs to improve the infrastructure and drainage and be aware of the fire that might happen,” PPKS noted. (T2)
