In the Covid-19 Pandemic, The Oleo-Chemical Products and CPO Exports Increased

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – When corona virus (Covid-19) hits, the derivative products of oleo-chemical increased. Referring to the official report of Indonesia Palm Oil Association (IPOA) to InfoSAWIT, Friday (8/5/2020), the increasing oleo-chemical product consumption reached 68 thousand tons or about 55% to the glycerin which is the material to produce hand sanitizer.

While the crude palm oil (CPO) consumption for the biodiesel was relatively stable though the crude oil was cheap. The diesel consumption in fossil – base decreased about 18%.

Executive Director of IPOA, Mukti Sardjono said that when the CPO production decreased, the exports increased reaching 83 thousand tons within the main contribution from CPO reaching 113 thousand tons and oleo-chemical reaching 63 thousand tons.

“The biggest increasing exports were to Bangladesh, Africa, and China. The exports to European Union, India, and Middle East slightly increased, while the exports to Pakistan and the United States of America decreased. The increasing exports to China happened for the country gets recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic,” he noted.

He also mentioned that the Covid-19 pandemic has disturbed the economy in the world but every country would not be staying for long in this situation and should rise again. “So the increasing productivity and efficiency should be the priors to keep the viability of the industries,” he said. (T2)
