InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – The domestic crude palm oil (CPO) consumption in April compared to March 2020 decreased 98 thousand tons. The biodiesel consumption reached 113 thousand tons only because of the lack of people activity.
The higher biodiesel consumption in January – April 2020 than it in the same period last year happened for the implementation of biodiesel mixture up to 30 percent (B30). It is predicted that the big scale social distancing (BSSD) made the food consumption increased 4 thousand tons only to be 725 thousand tons, while the oleo-chemical consumption increased 11 thousand tons to be 115 thousand tons.
This happened for the increasing hand sanitizer and soap to use. “The oleo-chemical consumption may keep happening though the BSDD would be loose because of the Covid-19 protocol still runs,” Executive Director of Indonesian Palm Oil Association (IPOA), Mukti Sardjono said, as in the official written statement to InfoSAWIT, Monday (8/6/2020).
The palm oil exports in April compared to March 2020 decreased 77 thousand tons; 44 thousand tons from the refined palm oil and 33 thousand tons from CPO.
Based on the countries, the biggest decreasing exports took place in Bangladesh, Africa, and Middle East, reaching 118, 62, and 56 thousand tons. The three countries did big imports in March 2020. In the contrary, the exports to Pakistan increased 100% to be 201 thousand ton because it imported less in March 2020.
The exports to China increased 37% to be 417 thousand tons though it was less that it in April 2019 which reached 730 thousand tons. “The exports to India and European Union slightly increased. The positive trend would go on as same as the better situation from Covid – 19 pandemic,” Mukti said. (T2)
