InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – In the recent days, 2 (two) palm oil Mills (POM) of PT. Sawit Sumbermas Sarana Tbk (SSMS) got Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certificates through PT. Tanjung Sawit Abadi (PKS Malata) and PT. Sawit Multi Utama (PKS Nanga Kiu) in District of Lamandau, Central Kalimantan.
The certificates were given on 23 June 2020 to PKS PT Sawit Multi Utama (SMU) and on 25 June 2020 to PT. Tanjung Sawit Abadi. The certificates were published by PT. SGS Indonesia as the RSPO certificate institution.
Director of SSMS, Vallautahan Subraminam said that the integrity and high commitment to sustainable palm oil management proveed that the company could develop and implement the sustainable practice in RSPO schemes in their subsidiaries.
For having 2 additional certificates, SSMS has got 6 (six) RSPO certificates in 2020 or about 80% of 8 (eight) factories in the company. The POM to get the certificate is PT. Menteng Kencana Mas (PKS Kanamit) in the second semester in 2021.
Besides maintain the quality and the business sustainability, SSMS also develops the independent smallholders around where the subsidiaries operate since 2018. “SSMS is encouraged to make Asosiasi Petani Kelapa Sawit (APKSM) in Kotawaringin Barat to take the smallholders run the environmental and social cultivation,” he said, as in the official written statement to InfoSAWIT.
The members of APKSM which were officially made in 2019 got RSPO Smallholder Certificate that consists of 340 smallholders within about 710 hectares of plantations. The areas getting RSPO Smallholder certificates reached 71% of 1000 hectares to accomplish in 2020.
By this achievement, the commitment of SSMS gets higher to increase the quality and business sustainability based on the 3 pillars of sustainability, they are, profit, people and planet. (T2)
