InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – The ambassador of Indonesia for Swiss, Muliaman Hadad said that the Indonesian Embassy approached the stakeholders to update the progress and explain the real facts and data about palm oil.
“In the very short time, Indonesian Embassy and Indonesian Chambers and Industries would do business conference with every businessman in Swiss to discuss that Indonesia-EFTA Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IE CEPA) is essential for both countries,” he said, Tuesday, (7/7/2002), as in the official written statement to InfoSAWIT.
He thought that the palm oil referendum was made because of some groups that did not agree with IE-CEPA for there is palm oil in it.
“Before the Government of Swiss ratifies one agreement with other countries, there would be once chance to the people to propose their opinion about the agreement. In this case, IE-CEPA and we have to respect the political process in Swiss and should not interfere it,” he said.
But he mentioned that the government, the government, and most people of Swiss, at the principles, really support and know that the palm oil exported by Indonesia is sustainable one.
“The sustainable scheme would be discussed and agreed together by Indonesia and Swiss," he said.
He also told that palm oil is the important sector for Indonesia for contributing the big amount of income. That is why Indonesia would explain it to the government of Swiss that palm oil has no issue.
He continued that by the high productivity in each hectare, palm oil could be planted in narrow areas compared to other vegetables.
He also said that the government of Indonesia would obey the international regulations to minimize the deforestation numbers in the global, such as, by running the moratorium and the implementation of Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO). (T2)
