In the Pandemic, Palm Oil Demands Decrease; The Hopes are in the Domestic

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Chairman of Indonesian Palm Oil Board (IPOB) Derom Bangun said that the palm oil exports from Indonesia are dominated by India, European Union, China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, USA, Middle East, and Africa

In the corona virus (Covid-19) pandemic, he continued, the CPO and its derivative products tend to decrease as same as non-palm oil vegetable oil demands, for example, in June 2020, the CPO demands in India decreased up to 56%.

"It might happen for the minimum promotion and advertisement because it is different from other products,” he said in the webinar held by Forum Jurnalis Sawit (FJS), within the theme “Mendongkrak Pasar Domestik dan Ekspor Minyak Sawit Indonesia”, Wednesday (22/7/2020) which InfoSAWIT joined.

In the relationship to the government’s policy to encourage the palm oil biodiesel usage, he is optimist to the domestic. But everything need some time because it needs to do further study by involving every stakeholder. “For example, D100 that PT. Pertamina runs is good and has been tested by Institut Teknologi Bandung. But everything should be discussed with the related industries,” he said. (T2)
