InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – The focus of the latest collaboration between Peat Restoration Board (PRB) and Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food is to support the people and the religious figures to educate the community to prevent the fire which is susceptible in the peat.
This is done in the desa peduli gambut (DPG) program. It is the series of educational activity and capacity enhancement which target the figures in the society. The “Lokalatih Da’I Masjid Peduli Gambut” was recently held in the same time in Riau, Jambi, and West Kalimantan in online throughSkype. It involved Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MUI) Pusat, the environment and climate change figures from many universities.
“By DPG, we would like that the fire would not happen in the peat. We succeeded the program in many areas in Indonesia,” Deputy in Education, Socialization, Participation ofPRB, Myrna A Safitri said, as in the official statement to InfoSAWIT recently.
The da’iwould make the big influences to the people and play the important roles to communicate that it is important to cultivate the peat within responsibility. The training is to increase the capacity of da’i to care about peat in its relation to the restoration and developing the eco-masjid.
Besides increasing the preparedness of the villagers to face the fire in the peat, increasing their knowledge about the peat cultivation, the collaboration would help increase their economy by implementing desa makmur peduli api (DMPA) program of Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food.
In the long term, it is hoped that many villagers which take part in the DPG program would not burn the peat and could cultivate the ecosystem in the peat sustainably.
“We realize that the preventing the fire in the forest and peat would need multi-sector cooperation to accelerate it. We experienced that to prevent the fire in the forest and areas, we run desa makmur peduli api and rehabilitated the peat in cooperation with PRB to the desa peduli gambut (DPG) program and they run well," Managing Director of Sustainability, Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food, Agus Purnomo said.
The social and environment policy in Golden Agri Resource (GAR) confirmed the commitment of the company to protect the peat. Since the fire in 2015, Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food has rehabilitated 2.600 hectares of the peat conservation done by PT Agro Lestari Mandiri (PT AMNL), Ketapang, West Kalimantan. The local villages also play the important roles to the peat restoration.(T2)
