SYL: Palm oil should Boost the Export

InfoSAWIT, JAKATA – The history is that on 18 November 1911 the first massive and commercial palm oil planting was held in Kebun Sungai Liput, Aceh Province and Pulo Raja, North Sumatera Province. It was funded by Societe des Huileries de Sumatra made in Brussel, Belgium for about 1,4 million francs.

In Hari Sawit Nasional 2020, Minister of Agriculture, Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL) in his speech read by General Director of Plantation, Ministry of Agriculture, Indonesian Republic, Kasdi Subagyono said that the moment could be the new history and milestone to develop palm oil plantations in Indonesia which is commemorated on every 18 November.

He said that Covind-19 pandemic significantly decreases the economy in Indonesia. Referring to Central Bureau of Statistic (CBS) Indonesian Republic, until the third quarter of 2020, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Indonesia was negative 3,49% compared to the same period in 2019. Behind the numbers we are thankful that the agriculture increased positively 2,15% of other sectors. Palm oil was one positive provider in GDP of agriculture in the quarter.

Palm oil massively contributes as the source of exchange. It is the first rank in agricultural sectors. Still based on CBS, until the third quarter of 2020, palm oil exports from Indonesia reached 25,28 million tons or about Rp 195,39 billion.

“The numbers increased 11,5% compared to the same period in last year. From the volume, more than 56% were exported in the downstream products, such as, refined, oleochemical, lauric, biodiesel, and others,” SYL noted.

He also mentioned that the potential of palm oil should be advantaged as maximal as it could to increase the exports based on what has been planned until 2024 in gerakan tiga kali lipat ekspor (Gratieks), and what Ministry of Agriculture Indonesian Republic and stakeholders do would focus to Gratieks.

“I also emphasized about our palm oil brand in international trade both about the standards and intensive promotion as regulated in Regulation of Minister of Agriculture No. 19 / 2019 about Agricultural Commodity Export Development,” he said. (T2)
