InfoSAWIT, SERDANG BEDAGAI - Since 2019, Indonesian Palm Oil Association (IPOA) North Sumatera has been in cooperation with Paya Pinang Group and Pusat Penelitian Kelapa Sawit (PPKS) to develop palm oil – sorghum integrated program in some plantations of Paya Pinang Group.
Diah Y Suriadiredja of Yayasan Kehati did appreciate the program as part of area conservation. She told that by knowing the nutrients in the soil, every area could be well advantaged to produce.
In the intercropping, it is important to notice the cultivation standards namely in the fertilization of each plant to get the balance. Besides the distance of the planting should be a notice to get enough sunshine.
Deputy II, Coordinator Ministry in Economy, Musdalifah Mahmud told that her side supports the intercrops, such as, sorghum, corn, or anything that could give advantage to the smallholders in the replanting program. But the intercrops should not bother the main plantation. “In the big scale, this would support the food security and independency,” she said, as in the official statement to InfoSAWIT recently. (T2)
