DSN Group Funded Forest Conservation in West Kalimantan for a Decade

InfoSAWIT, KETAPANG – PT Dharma Satya Nusantara Tbk (DSN Group)  took part in Proyek Konservasi Hutan Berbasis Masyarakat in Hutan Desa Laman Satong in Dusun Manjau, Village of Laman Satong, District of Ketapang, West Kalimantan Province through its commitment of fund for a decade starting in January 2021.

As the member of Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), DSN Group participated through Remediasi dan Kompensasi RSPO (RaCP) program in conservation project led by the community in Laman Satong in cooperation with other stakeholders. The project was officially held on Thursday (14/1/2021).

DSN Group through its subsidiaries, such as, PT Dharma Agrotama Nusantara, PT Dewata Sawit Nusantara, and PT Dharma Intisawit Lestari allocated fund for about US$ 390.600 or Rp 5,5 billion for the next 10 years in this program.

Head of CSR Division Area 2 DSN Group, Immanuel Tibian said that out of commitment of DSN Group to fulfill sustainable palm oil standards in RSPO, Remediation and Compensation Procedure (RaCP) mechanism also provides the good base for the company to deal with conservation and social responsibility in positive and sustainable ways.

“This is part of our bigger commitment to protect landscape by conservation in Dusun Manjau which is famous as one of conservation spot in West Kalimantan Barat. We are proud of this which the villagers lead. This is the same with our sustainability vision to be the responsible choice for people, planet, and prosperity,” he said after the cooperation kick-off, as in the official statement to InfoSAWIT.

The remediation program of DSN Group covers the fund to payment ecosystem service (PES) through the foundation which cultivates Hutan Desa Laman Satong. The fund would be used to facilitate the people to get sustainable sources of living and confirm the conservation and protection of forest. DSN Group cooperates with Community Forest Ecosystem Services (CFES) to realize the compensation which starts from January 2021 to January 2031.

Meanwhile, Arif Aliadi, Chairman of CFES told that the program is about to develop the social forestry as the effective and sustainable scheme in the conservation and increase the living sources of the people.

He thought that to realize the goal, the project may enable the forest cultivation in people – base which is sustainable in Hutan Desa Laman Satong, increase the local people’s income by improving the sustainable agriculture, and do conservation and they could conquer the threats to the forests by approaches gradually.
