It needs Cooperation and Consolidation to develop Palm Oil

PalmOIilMagazine, JAKARTA – As the biggest palm oil producer in the world, Indonesia plays the most strategic roles to supply palm oil needs globally. In the same time, Indonesia is also the main sustainable palm oil producers based on the universal principles and criteria.

In 2020 it was predicted that Indonesia produced 51,627 million tons of crude palm oil (CPO). Certified CPO (CSPO) could be about  15,19 million tons. 52% derived from Indonesia but the production was not from Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) and International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC).

For information, ISPO is the mandatory certificate that the government published for the stakeholders and smallholders should implement while Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and ISCC are voluntarily implemented.

For palm oil is internationally traded, many focus and accuse it negatively. That is why it needs the same strategies to produce the commodity nationally to supply sustainably.

One thing to do is by implementing CPO Supporting Fund (CSF) that Public Service Obligation Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (PFMA) manages. PFMA is the agency to develop palm oil by encouraging the added values from CPO in Indonesia.

Deputy II Kantor Staf Presiden (KSP), Abetnego Tarigan claimed that the government takes sides to the smallholders’ plantations. They play big roles to cultivate theirs as the sources of living.

By implementing sustainable palm oil plantation, their cultivation would produce better fresh fruit bunch (FFB). “Their production would be better and would get better life,” he explained.

He also mentioned that the cooperation and consolidation from many institutions needs to be realized to support the better palm oil plantation governance. The facts showed that palm oil is not managed by one ministry or institution. “We need to develop coordination and need to consolidate in the field,” Tarigan said. (T2)
