PalmOilMagazine, JAKARTA – There would be three biomass products to fulfill bioenergy needs in Japan. The first is from non – standard coconut to be processed as solid fuel and liquid fuel. The second is pellet from empty palm oil bunch. IJB-Net confirmed that the pellet needs could be about 40 thousand tons per month, and the third is the pellet from wood.
“To fulfill pellet needs from empty bunch to Japan, at least, the supply should be taken from about 480 thousand hectares,” Chairman and Initiator of IJB – Net, Suyoto Rais told in the Kick off Meeting about Work Plan to fulfill Bioenergy Needs in Japan that PalmOilMagazine did join in the end of 2020.
He also mentioned that empty bunch is the biggest number of waste produced by palm oil plantations. The numbers could be 25% of the weight of fresh fruit bunch. But until now it is not maximally advantaged and it is often called as garbage. To be used as pellet, empty bunch should be processed so that its salinity could be decreasing. One thing for sure, the technology is about to complete.
“It is only a matter of time to wait for the policy published by Japan and Indonesia to support. Japan hinted at fulfilling Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certificate though we also offered the other certificate scheme, such as, Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO). But if it derives from Indonesia, there would be export citation, just like palm oil shell,” he said.
IJB-Net also confirmed that there have been pellet buyers of empty bunch but they need more investors to develop pellet factories. By having consortium, this would be the place to fulfill fund needs to develop pellet factory and to guarantee the materials of empty bunch in the particular location. (T2)
