Three Mandates for the Trade

PalmOilMagazine, JAKARTA - In the second era of President Joko Widodo, Muhammad Lutfi got the mandate as the Minister of Trade. There are three agenda to run.

In the previous he was the Minister of Trade in the era of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) since 14 February 2014 to 20 October 2014. He substituted the former Minister of Trade, Gita Wirjawan.

Still in the era of SBY, Muhammad Lufti once worked in many fields – the same with minister level, such as, Head of Badan Koordinasi Penanaman Modal (BKPM) in 2005 – 2009. He was ambassador of Indonesia to Japan in 2010 - 2013. When he was the Head of BKPM, he was 36 years old and recorded as the youngest Head of BKPM in Indonesia.

As the Minister of Trade, Lutfi said that he got the mandate from President Joko Widodo to recover the economy in 2021 from Covid – 19 pandemic. He thought that Ministry of Trade would do some things and policies about the world economic situation.

“To face such challenges in trade sector, President Joko Widodo gave three mandates to Ministry of Trade to implement immediately,” he said in virtual press conference in the midst of January 2021 that PalmOilMagazine did join. 

The three mandates are, to maintain the price stability namely inflation and increase people’s buying capability; the second is to help many small and medium businessmen to penetrate exports. (T2)
