Palmoilmagazine, JAKARTA – Biodiesel use namely in palm oil – base has the strategic roles in fossil energy policy transition to the renewable one. Just like the government’s support, biodiesel consumption positively developed in the past decade.
“Biodiesel production increased fast in the past 16 years. The total production capacity reached 16,6 million kiloliters by 2021,” Paulus Tjakrawan, Daily Chairman of APROBI, said, as in the official statement to Palmoilmagazine, Thursday (12/5/2022).
Based on the data from APROBI, B30 was distributed up to 8,43 million kiloliters in 2020. In 2021 it reached 8,44 million kiloliters though in the past two years, he continued, Indonesia was hit by pandemic and impacted to social and economic sectors. In 2022 B30 distribution would reach 10,15 million kiloliters.
He also mentioned, crude palm oil to produce biodiesel reached 15% from the total production nationally which reached 48,09 million tons in 2021. In this year, CPO use could be 17% and most of CPO production would be used to food needs, namely to produce palm cooking oil.
“Biodiesel is the part to accelerate energy transition program nationally. Energy development in palm oil – base keeps running, such as, bio hydrocarbon. Its development could produce gasoline and aviation turbine in palm oil – base,” he said.
From the environmental aspect, B30 use could reduce green-house gas emission up to 22,59 million tons of CO2 in 2021. B30 is a very effective program for the prior needs to reduce emission and reduce dependence on fossil energy namely in transportation sectors nationally.
Biodiesel use also save the exchange. He continued, B30 reduced the expenditure up to US$ 3,8 billion from diesel imports. Indonesia would reduce diesel import in phase since biodiesel/bioenergy ran until B30.
Biodiesel mandatory program is effectively increasing palm oil absorption in this country when the world decreased their imports. He continued, biodiesel use helps to increase the smallholders’ welfare after the balancing consumption in this country and the export takes place. The positive is that the smallholders’ fresh fruit bunch (FFB) selling price is stable in this country. Since last year to March 2022, smallholders’ FFB was more than Rp 3.000/kilogram in average.
