Palmoilmagazine, JAKARTA – Director of Processing and Marketing of Plantation Product General Directorate of Plantation Ministry of Agriculture, Ade Trisunar said, of eight infrastructures, the smallholders could propose one infrastructure from their needs.
“Every smallholders’ institution is welcome to the local plantation agency to get information, prepare the conditions needed. Every proposal would be processed,” he said in a webinar with the theme “Dampak Positif Program PSR dan Pengembangan SDM Bagi Petani Sawit” in Jakarta.
Ade thought, the potential to get if every program is realized is the increasing production intensification of fresh fruit bunch (FFB) about 80.000 – 160.000 tons/year; increasing productivity and production extensification would be about 10-15%; post-harvest tools and process to minimize FFB losses in harvest time; the establishment of smallholders’ institutions; escalate the competitiveness; improving the way and water management to maintain FFB quality to be at the mills; efficient time, costs; efficient transportation; efficient FFB cost delivery; market infrastructures which increase; better offices/place to trade; increase Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) technical verification; escalate the acceptance of FFB from Indonesia in the globe; escalate the acceleration to decrease green-house gas emission.
“The proposals we got the most are to improve the way because 50% of the way into the plantations are broken. It took times to transport FFB to the mills. If it is in rainy days, FFB could be out of the plantations for days. When I directly saw it, I myself was stuck in the plantations when it was rain,” he said.
Head of Plantation Agency North Sumatera Province, Lies Handayani Siregar appreciated the infrastructure program in smallholders’ replanting program (SRP). She admitted, the program would escalate the smallholders’ plantation productivity which eventually increases their welfare.
Palm oil plantations in North Sumatera laid about 1,39 million hectares. The smallholders had about 441.000 hectares. Many of their plantations are more than 25 years old. Many smallholders did plant independently by planting fake or uncertified seeds and did not implement good agricultural practices (GAP).
Boru Siregar hoped SRP and other infrastructure program would increase smallholders’ FFB production and they would be better in economy.
“Smallholders’ palm oil plantations can be maintained optimally by planting the seeds per one hectare in SRP program which is, 143 trees per hectare within distance 9 x 9 (meter). The program should increase the smallholders’ institution so that they could cultivate sustainable by joining ISPO program,” she said. (T2)
