Palmoilmagazine, JAKARTA – Industrial development should be supported by reliable research and so should palm oil plantation sector. Research is one foundation to keep running and support and develop the industries.
Head of Service Division Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (PFMA), Arfie Thahar mentioned, there are seven groups of research (in palm oil sector), they are, cultivation; post-harvest, food process and health; bioenergy; oleochemical and biomaterial; social and environment, economy; market business and management. Research and development in palm oil is about to increase productivity, sustainability, create product(s) or new markets, and escalate the smallholders’ welfare.
The fund research that PFMA distributed in 2015 – 2021 reached Rp 389,3 billion to cover 235 field researches. The researches covered 48 fields in bioenergy, 9 fields in post-harvest, 26 fields in cultivation, 17 fields in health and food, 37 fields in oleo-chemical and biomaterial, 61 fields in social-economy, and 37 field in environment.
Arfie continued, the research program in PFMA cooperated with 70 research and development institutions, universities, and Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional (BRIN). Besides there were 840 researchers, 346 students, 201 publication involved in PFMA’s researches. “From the program, there have been 42 patents and 6 books,” he said in a webinar about “Inovasi Sawit dalam Industri Pangan”, Wedneday (25/5/2022) in Jakarta.
Deputy Assistant of Plantation Agribusiness, Moch. Edy Yusuf said it needs the same action to develop sustainability from the upstream to downstream sectors to get the harmony of people, planet, and profit.
“Palm oil would be the important commodity for the globe for it can be processed to be food products, soap, cosmetics, hand sanitizer, and renewable energy. We live side by side with palm oil products in 24/7,” he said.
Edy continued, palm oil needs nationally reached about 5,7 million kiloliters. The numbers consist of household needs that reached 3,9 million kiloliters and industrial needs covered 1,8 million kiloliters. “Palm cooking oil needs should deliver education for the people that it is from palm oil which was safely produced and ‘this promotion’ needs to keep running,” he said.
