Palmoilmagazine, MEDAN - Hadi Tjahjanto, the former Army Commander officially substituted Sofyan Djalil as Minister of Agrarian Affairs/Head of National Land Agency that President Joko Widodo inaugurated in Istana Negara, Jakarta, Wednesday (15/6/2022) noon..

Knowing the substitution, Chairman of Asosiasi Petani Kelapa Sawit Perkebunan Inti Rakyat (Aspek-PIR) North Sumatera, Syarifuddin Sirait thanked President Joko Widodo for doing it.

“And to the new Minister, please, sir, solve smallholders’ palm oil plantation issues which are categorized to be in forest regions. Have pity on us, Sir,” he said to Palmoilmagazine, Thursday (16/6/2022).

It is reasonable for him to be grateful by giving hope to Hadi Tjahjanto. Sirait said, many issues hit the smallholders both the independent, plasma, or PIR ones in the province, such as, legal areas which are claimed to be in forest regions.

This issue hit other issue, such as, the implementation of smallholders replanting program which never hit the targets in North Sumatera. The two issues deliver difficulties.

Sirait who is also as the Chairman of Koperasi Petani Kelapa Sawit (KPKS) said, as PIR – Trans smallholders in Village of Gotting Sidodadi, Sub district of Bandar Pasir Mandoge, District of Asahan, we are the victims of forest region claim and legal areas.

“I was shock when reading running text on my TV a few days ago. President Joko Widodo reminded that no one should deliver problems for the smallholders. What is this? But in fact, President Joko Widodo substitute minister of agrarian affairs and spatial/head of national land agency.

He remembered in the early of 1990s, they cultivated palm oil plantations in PIR Trans program which President Soeharto developed. But when they wanted to join SRP, some of their plantations are categorized to be in forest regions.

“It is weird. Palm oil plantations develop and housing exists, police, religious places do too. How come the government claimed that everything is in forest regions,” he questioned.

His side is now struggling for the land documents to get freehold title at the ministry after long journey and won the case in the trial.

He and his friends hoped much to Hadi Tjahjanto as Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial/Head of National Land Agency. His background as the former Army Commander would accelerate the legal issues that the smallholders face. (T5)
