Palmoilmagazine, NUSA DUA – The government keeps doing many things to solve food and energy crisis which happens in the world. In this case, palm oil which is also edible or vegetable oil is potential to be the significant solution to consider. That is why palm oil producing countries should take advantage on the increasing palm oil demands in the world and encouraging the admission on sustainable palm oil globally.
“Palm oil plays strategic roles as parts of solution to solve food and energy crisis in the globe. That is why promotion and sustainability commitment on palm oil should be realized and escalated, including by conducting constructive dialogue with other vegetable oil consumers and producers, and also escalate capacity and smallholders’ investment,” Coordinator Minister in Economy Indonesian Republic, Airlangga Hartarto said in 10th Ministers’ Summit of Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC) with Minister of Plantation and Commodity Malaysia, Y.M. Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin in Nusa Dua, Bali, Tuesday (19/07/2022).
In the same shot, Minister Zuraida believed, palm oil demands would remain good in 2022 for the open sector in economy and international borders namely in food. Palm oil producing countries needs to encourage the better narration about palm oil in the global level. She emphasized this is the right time for producer countries within the help of the importer countries to show up palm oil advantages.
The summit also discussed about dynamic, opportunity, and challenges in vegetable oil markets globally, such as, palm oil disruption which is now influenced by the conflicts in Ukraine, and proliferation of food protection policies.
To increase the cooperation in CPOPC itself in the future, the summit discussed the plans to conduct The G20 Sustainable Vegetable Oil Summit which would be running in November 2022. The meeting would be about to synergize the cooperation to solve the challenges in vegetable oil supply chain.
In the shot, the summit also supported what CPOPC would do to help Honduras to improve palm oil plantation damage because of 2020 storm. Executive Director of CPOPC reported CPOPC activity since the last summit which ran in December 2021. It discussed about ratification process of Charter Amendment Protocol of CPOPC that could be the moment to escalate the future cooperation in CPOPC.
Minister Airlangga also delivered his appreciation to the Global Framework of Principles of Sustainable Palm Oil (GFP – SPO) promotion that CPOPC developed in side event of United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) High Level Political Forum which took place on 10 - 15 July 2022. (T2)
