B40 Biodiesel Road Test, Officially Run Until the End of 2022

Palmoilmagazine, JAKARTA – Palm oil biodiesel 40% (B40) which is mixed to diesel was officially launched by the government through Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resource (EMR).

Minister of EMR, Arifin Tasrif said, Indonesia is one pioneer in advantaging biodiesel in palm oil – base. “We should not stop at B30. We could minimize our deficit financial balance because we know that fossil fuel is about to decrease,” he said in the launching of B4o road test in Jakarta, Wednesday (27/7/2022).

Arifin also mentioned, before implementing B40, it needed series of test to know the quality of B40 itself. “B40 road test could be the final series of test as the consideration to implement B40 and to guarantee biodiesel advantage to run well,” he said.

The result of B40 road test, he continued, would be over by the late of 2022 and would recommend the technical policy to implement B40 program.

In the meantime, General Director of New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conversion, Ministry of EMR, Dadan Kusdiana reported the details of vehicle in the road test. There are 12 vehicles which consist of 6 (six) diesel – vehicles less than 3,5 tons within the daily road target about 560 kilometers and the total 50.000 kilometers. “6 (six) diesel vehicles more than 3,5 tons within daily road target about 400 kilometers and the total 40.000 kilometers," Dadan said, as in the official statement to Palmoilmagazine, Wednesday (27/7/2022).

He also mentioned, the road test of B40 would cover about the handling and analysis of fuel consumption, quality test of fuel and lubricants, work test in the dynamometer chases, merit rating test of vehicles’ component, and vehicle stability test.

For information, B40 road test is coordinated by General Director of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conversion and implemented by Balai Besar Pengujian Minyak dan Gas Bumi "Lemigas" by involving Balai Besar Survei dan Pengujian Ketenagalistrikan Energi Baru, Terbarukan dan Konservasi Energi (KEBTKE), and Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional with the fund derived from Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency, involved Coordinator Ministry in Economy, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Industry, PT. Pertamina (Persero), PT. Kilang Pertamina Internasional, and PT. Pertamina Patra Niaga. (T2)
