Palmoilmagazine, Head of Sustainable Plantation, Plantation Agency East Kalimantan Province
Palmoilmagazine, SAMARINDA – At least, there have been 50 kelompok tani peduli api (KTPA) in East Kalimantan Province in partners with plantation companies. They are faster and easier to control the fire if it happens in the forests and areas.
“Until 2021 in East Kalimantan Province, there had been 99 KTPA. Of the numbers, 50 KTPA are in partners with many companies,” Head of Sustainable Plantation, Plantation Agency East Kalimantan Province, Asmirilda said in Samarinda, as Palmoilmagazine quoted from the official page of East Kalimantan Plantation Agency.
Unfortunately, she continued, the equipment belonging to KTPA is not good enough. The provincial government encouraged them to get partnership with the nearest companies because the companies have complete equipment to prevent the fire in the forests or areas. The province also scheduled to conduct five – time socialization to the people not to fire areas in the new planting.
“There are three sectors in my field, they are, Plantation Fire Control, Green-House Gas (GHG) Mitigation, and Water and Are Conservation. Everyone of us should realize the plantations, namely palm oil ones to be sustainable,” Asmirilda said.
She mentioned, the socialization to the people not to fire when having new planting is important thing to reduce GHG emission and realize sustainable plantations.
According to Geophysics, Climatology, Meteorology Agency East Kalimantan, in July to August this year, the heat or dry season would be more and it needs early awareness to minimize the fire in the forests and areas.
Asmirilda also said the socialization would be in five districts and involve many sides, such as, smallholders (farmers) groups, KTPA, and plantation companies around the socialization would be taking place.
"The socialization started on Wednesday (13/7) in Kampung Luwak, Sub district of Marangkayu, District of Kutai Kartanegara, then on 19 July in District of Kutai Barat, then to District of Penajam Paser Utara, District of Paser, and Kutai Timur," she said. (T2)
