Palmoilmagazine, JAKARTA – Head of Plantation, Food Plantation Agriculture Agency District of Sorolangun, Jambi Province, Dedi Hendri said, he realized that in the district, there are about 21 thousand independent smallholders. From the numbers, they are suggested to fulfill the terms and conditions needed and should have Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) certificate.
He continued, the support from Yayasan Setara Jambi and Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) would help them to get ISPO and RSPO certificate. “Until now there have been few smallholders that got sustainable palm oil certificate in District of Sorolangun while the will to develop palm oil plantations in the district is high enough. Many rubber plantations have been conversed to be palm oil plantations,” he said in an online event which Palmoilmagazine recently joined.
Dedi also mentioned, the spirit of the people is high enough to develop and cultivate palm oil. The support from Yayasan Setara Jambi would be able to help them because we have limited Regional Budget. “Actually, the regional government keeps encouraging them to develop the standard and sustainable palm oil plantation. We did many socializations to encourage them planting superior seeds, notice the environmental aspects, and not develop the plantations in forest regions. We also suggest them to plant and develop the plantations in Other Use Area,” Dedi said. (T2)
