Palmoilmagazine.com, JAKARTA – Prior in update of InfoSAWIT with the title “ITP2I Meminta KAN Cabut Sertifikasi ISPO Asian Agri”, Chairman of Environmental Study Center of Institut Perkebunan Pelalawan Indonesia (ITP2I), Taufik came by to the office of Komite Akreditasi Nasional (KAN), revealed the report and urged to revoke Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) certificate from PT Asian Agri, Monday (16/1/2023) in Jakarta.
Taufik said that the institution supports the government to develop sustainable palm oil plantations by publishing ISPO certificates, but it does not mean that having ISPO, a palm oil plantation company could be against the law. In addition, the people around the plantations get the direct impacts for a plantation does not implement the mandate in ISPO.
About the news, management of Asian Agri delivered clarification to Palmoilmagazine.com, Wednesday (18/1/2023). The company told that based on the President’s Regulation Number 44 / 2020 about Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil Plantation Certification System, Chapter 16 paragraph 1 noted that the minister is the party that can deliver sanction to revoke ISPO certificate to palm oil plantation business which does not fulfill or realize ISPO principles and criteria.
Asian Agri got ISPO certificate with number SGS-ID-ISPO-0033 which was published by PT SGS Indonesia (PT SGS) on 22 March 2019 that would be available until 21 March 2024.
On 5 December 2022, there was Proposal Letter about Complaint Clarification from Komite Akreditasi Nasional (KAN) No 20/4.c4/PPB/1/2023 about the violation assumption to ISPO principles and criteria about palm oil plantation development in production forest regions which can be conversed and permanent production forest regions in Riau Province.
Then on 9 January 2023 by the verification team, PT SGS published Verification Report on behalf of PT Inti Indosawit Subur (PT IIS) in Riau. From the verification result to the report of ISPO principles and criteria assessment, at the third surveillance to PT IIS by PT SGS on 10 - 12 March 2022, it showed that PT IIS has had legal areas based on the available regulation.
“PT SGS confirmed that to make sure the legal truth of PT IIS, interviews were conducted with many stakeholders, such as, Environment Agency District of Pelalawan, Plantation and Livestock Agency District of Palalawan and head of Legal Section,” Asian Agri noted in its note.
The management of Asian Agri also confirmed that the two companies always obey and respect every available regulation namely in ISPO principles and criteria. (T2)
