PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – As we know from the news that has been circulating, on April 27, 2024, Wahana Lingkungan Hidup Indonesia or WALHI published an article on the website with the title “WALHI and Community Representatives Protest at Astra International Headquarters in London.”
Regarding the article and the protest action in London by Walhi, FoE UK, and the Sulawesi Community, PT Astra Agro Lestari (PT AAL) finally responded and clarified the news that had been circulating.
In its clarification, “PT AAL and its subsidiaries, including PT Mamuang, PT Lestari Tani Teladan, PT Agro Nusa Abadi, and PT Sawit Jaya Abadi 2 (PTSJA-2), have never criminalized or threatened the community. The legal process in Indonesia is carried out indiscriminately, and every report of violation is processed legally,” quoted by Palmoilmagazine.com from a release received on Monday, May 6, 2024.

Regarding PTSJA-2, the company is not operating on 8,500 hectares of land and has an Implementation Permit for Transmigration (IPT) issued by the Indonesian government. Decisions regarding plasma plantations and land allocation are made by the government, not by Astra Agro Lestari.
Astra Agro Lestari has provided a formal response to the deforestation allegations raised by Genesis Bengkulu, which can be accessed on the company’s website.
