PALMOILMAGAZINE, EAST LAMPUNG — Lampung Deputy Governor Jihan Nurlela officially inaugurated the Palm Oil Mill (POM) of PT Pesona Sawit Makmur (PT PSM) in Gunung Agung Village, Sekampung Udik District, East Lampung Regency, on Thursday (October 16, 2025).
In her remarks, Jihan emphasized that the new mill brings renewed hope for palm oil farmers in the region. The facility is expected not only to strengthen the local economy but also to create new jobs and improve community welfare.
“Congratulations on the inauguration of PT Pesona Sawit Makmur’s Palm Oil Mill. I hope its presence brings prosperity to the people, strengthens our regional economy, and becomes part of Lampung’s journey toward a more advanced future,” Jihan said. She was accompanied by Reno Ruswandi, representing PT PSM’s management.

Driving Downstream Development and Regional Value-Added Growth
Jihan highlighted that palm oil is a vital commodity contributing significantly to Indonesia’s national economy. Beyond its role in exports, the sector provides livelihoods for millions of smallholders and rural workers.
“Lampung is known as one of Indonesia’s provinces with vast plantation potential. Palm oil has become a pillar of the people’s economy and a major source of employment,” she said.
She added that approximately 250,000 hectares of palm plantations in Lampung are managed by smallholders, many of whom are partnered with PT PSM. However, she noted that this potential can only be fully realized if palm oil products are processed locally.
“The presence of PT PSM’s mill is highly strategic—it strengthens the value chain, drives downstream development, and positions Lampung as a center of competitive and sustainable palm oil processing,” Jihan affirmed.
Government Commitment and Environmental Compliance
According to Jihan, the Lampung Provincial Government continues to promote the growth of resource-based industries by improving infrastructure, accelerating investment services, and fostering collaboration among government, business, and the community.
“We want Lampung’s natural resources to bring the greatest benefit to its people. That’s why the government continues to build a healthy and sustainable investment ecosystem,” she explained.
She also underscored the importance of compliance with environmental and labor regulations.
“We will ensure that all industries comply with regulations—from environmental impact assessments (AMDAL) to labor laws. Industry must operate on principles that are mutually beneficial for workers and surrounding communities,” Jihan said.
Jihan further urged PT PSM to implement the Surrounding Community Plantation Development Facilitation Program (FPKMS) as part of its corporate social responsibility to smallholders.
“I ask PT PSM to carry out FPKMS for the benefit and sustainability of local farmers,” she emphasized.
Concluding her remarks, Jihan expressed hope that PT PSM would serve as a model for other palm oil companies in applying sustainability and social responsibility principles.
“Businesses today must be not only productive but also adaptive and responsible. With strong commitment, I believe PT PSM will play a key role in transforming the palm oil industry into a modern, efficient, and globally competitive sector,” she concluded. (P2)
