PALMOILMAGAZINE, BANGI — The Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) has taken another bold step in advancing the commercialization of research-driven innovations in the national palm oil sector. In a recent launch event, Minister of Plantation and Commodities, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, officially introduced two of MPOB’s latest innovations: the MPOB F6 fertilizer formulation and a nutritious biscuit enriched with red palm oil.

This launch marks more than just scientific progress—it reaffirms MPOB’s role as a key research institution that promotes value addition and sustainability across Malaysia’s palm oil industry.

The MPOB F6 fertilizer is specially formulated with key nutrients—nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and magnesium—aimed at maintaining long-term soil fertility. Developed in alignment with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles, the formulation is part of MPOB’s commitment to sustainable palm oil agriculture.

“This isn’t just another fertilizer. It’s the result of in-depth research to ensure that our palm cultivation practices remain environmentally friendly and sustainable,” Johari stated, as quoted by Palmoilmagazine.com from My Metro on Saturday, June 28, 2025.

Alongside the fertilizer, MPOB also introduced a functional food product—a biscuit fortified with red palm oil, rich in provitamin A carotenoids and natural phytonutrients. The biscuit is designed as a nutritional supplement that helps combat vitamin A deficiency and support balanced dietary intake.

“This biscuit shows how palm oil research can provide innovative solutions to public health challenges,” Johari added.

According to the Minister, these two products are part of over 240 technologies and innovations that have been developed and commercialized by MPOB. Collectively, these innovations have generated market value exceeding RM5.9 billion to date.

He emphasized that technology transfer of this nature helps improve operational efficiency and adds value across the entire palm oil supply chain.

The launch was part of the MPOB 2025 Technology Transfer Program (TOT), which also featured other cutting-edge developments, including:

  • MPOB-Eg50 community platform for palm genetics research
  • Integrated Ganoderma pest management systems
  • IMBAS-based fruit ripeness detection technology

In addition, MPOB showcased a range of palm-based products ready for market, such as:

  • Food-grade hydraulic oil
  • Personal care products
  • Eco-friendly cleaning emulsions for the oil and gas sector
  • NutrEcare emulsion drinks
  • Palm-based chocolate spreads, candies, vegan mayonnaise, and
  • Formulated poultry feed

This initiative underscores that research and innovation should not remain confined to the lab, but instead drive real economic impact in the palm oil industry. With an aggressive commercialization strategy, Malaysia is solidifying its position as a global palm oil leader—not just in volume, but also in innovation, sustainability, and value creation. (P2)
