PALMOILMAGAZINE, RUSSIA — A leading Russian academic has dismissed long-standing claims that palm oil poses health risks. Dmitry Nikityuk, Director of the Federal Research Center for Nutrition and Biotechnology and an Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, emphasized that palm oil has undergone extensive scientific evaluation and is proven safe for consumption.

Nikityuk explained that his institution has conducted comprehensive research on the microbiological properties, chemical composition, and fatty acid profile of palm oil. He noted that the fatty acid structure of palm oil even shares similarities with human breast milk.

“Palm oil used across various products — from ice cream to infant formula — has been thoroughly studied by the Institute of Nutrition. Our scientific findings show no justification for excluding it as a food ingredient,” Nikityuk said, as quoted Palmoilmagazine.com from glavny.tv, Sunday (December 7, 2025).

His statement responds to ongoing initiatives pushing for restrictions or outright bans on palm oil, including proposals at the legislative level. Nikityuk argued that such efforts are inconsistent with established scientific evidence.

He also stressed the importance of strict product quality control, from production to consumer distribution. In this regard, he stated that Russia’s consumer protection agency, Rospotrebnadzor, has effectively carried out its oversight responsibilities. (P2)
