PALMOILMAGAZINE, PASER – In 2023, the Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (PFMA) and the General Directorate of Plantation under the Ministry of Agriculture have initiated a program called Palm Oil Plantation Human Resource Development. The main objective of this program is to enhance the competence and qualifications of smallholders involved in palm oil plantations in Indonesia.
56 smallholders from District of Paser, East Kalimantan Province joined the trainings as the result of technical recommendation from General Director of Plantation Number 444/SM.120/E/11/2022. It was running at Hotel Swissbellin Balikpapan – East Kalimantan for three days from 13 to 16 June 2023.
In his speech, Head of Plantation and Livestock Agency District of Paser, Djoko Bawono said that the training was the second time. In 2022 the training was joined by about 200 participants.
Djoko also said, there would be three trainings to escalate smallholders’ competency this year. The first was about developing smallholders’ togetherness that PT Daya Guna Lestari. 56 smallholders were divided into 12 groups.

The second, on 21 June 2023 there was training about plantation maps that would be developed by Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) Training Center. The third, in August 2023, there would be training about post-harvest together with Poltek Citra Widya Edukasi (CWE).
He continued, smallholders’ replanting program (SRP) in the district got technical recommendation that laid about 7.345 hectares (ha). “In East Kalimantan Province, only District of Paser got it, other would be getting it this year,” he said, as in the official statement to Palmoilmagazine.com recently.
Djoko told, Paser got technical recommendation that laid about 2000s hectares last year and in 2023, SRP technical recommendation would be about 800s ha. “We have to keep the spirit alive,” he said.
Meanwhile, Director of PT Daya Guna Lestari, M Gema Aliza Putra said from the progress in palm oil industries namely sustainable technology, it needs to get trainings for the workers to be skillful, reliable, and getting certificate to be the successful keys in implementing 4.0 technology in this industry.
Gema also said field facts showed smallholders’ palm oil plantation production tends to be lower than it produced by private companies and government’s plantations. “It may happen for the smallholders have limited information and knowledge both from the cultivation technique and regulations,” he said.
That is why he continued it needs to escalate the smallholders’ ability to manage, cultivate, and maximize palm oil production, reinforce their institutions, escalate their welfare, and realize sustainable palm oil plantations. Everything can be realized by having structured and programmed education (trainings).
“In association with that, PT. Daya Guna Lestari tries to play its roles to escalate their human resources through Smallholders’ Togetherness Development Training Program to qualify and escalate palm oil plantation human resources in 2023,” he said.
