UGM – PFMA Collaboration: Driving Innovation in Indonesia Palm Oil Industry

PALMOILMAGAZINE, TANGERANG – On Monday, September 25, 2023, at the JHL Soltaire Hotel in Gading Serpong, Tangerang, Professor Budi Setiadi Daryono, the Dean of the Faculty of Biology at Universitas Gajah Mada (UGM), represented UGM in securing research and development funding from the Palm Oil Fund Management Agency (PFMA) for the year 2023.

The memorandum of understanding was formally signed during this event, attended by heads of various research and development institutions as well as researchers who had received funding support from PFMA. This marked the beginning of a promising collaboration between UGM and PFMA.

The focus of this research and development effort will encompass innovative projects led by Professor Budi Setiadi Daryono, under the intriguing research title, “Pengembangan Marka Molekuler Untuk Kelapa Sawit Efisien Penyerapan Nutrisi Fosfat” (Development of Molecular Markers for Efficient Phosphate Nutrient Uptake in Oil Palm).

In his speech, Director of PFMA, Eddy Abdurrachman emphasized that PFMA would have long term – commitment to support research and development in palm oil industries. The research fund would be not only investment to develop technology but also the real thing to support sustainable development goals (SDGs). The collaboration should encourage not only researchers’ research and lecturers in Faculty of Biology UGM (SDG 4) but also promote strong partnership (SDG 17) and inclusively economic progress. (SDG 8).

It is hoped the research would be not only problem solution but also be the significant pillar to escalate productivity and sustainability in palm oil industries nationally.
