PFMA, Directorate General of Plantations and IPB Provide Financial Training for 58 South Sumatera Smallholders

PALMOILMAGAZINE, PALEMBANG – The Plantation Agency of South Sumatera Province held a training session on financial management and administration, titled “Pelatihan Manajemen dan Administrasi Keuangan,” on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.

The event was inaugurated by Agus Darwa, Head of the South Sumatera Plantation Agency, who emphasized the importance of financial administration and management for ensuring the sustainability and long-term viability of plantations and organizations, as well as protecting the interests of union members.

“In South Sumatera, palm oil plantations cover about 1.4 million hectares and contribute 10 to 80 percent of the total national exports,” Agus stated in an official press release to Palmoilmagazine.com on Sunday, June 9, 2024.

The training featured four trainers: Dwi Rachmina, Netti Tinaprilla, Hastuti, and Farida Ratna Dewi. Dwi Rachmina, the Lead Trainer and a Lecturer of Agribusiness in the Faculty of Economy and Management at Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB), explained that the training aimed to assist smallholders in managing their plantations, including fertilizer application, labor management, and understanding their financial business profits.

“Every smallholder should understand not only cultivation technic, but also financial management and administration. Then every union member would understand and apply the financial management to get their organization developed,” Dwi Rachmina said.

Director of Plantation Protection General Directorate of Plantation Ministry of Agriculture, Hendratmojo Bagus Hudoro said that palm oil organization/institution coordinators should run every activity based on the professional and economic principles that refers to corporate concepts. “The organization that understands about financial management could minimize the loss but maximize income,” he said.

Hendratmojo continued the training would be the way of the government to escalate the knowledge and insight in financial administration and management. General Directorate of Plantation allocated fund through Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (PFMA) to get the training that 58 smallholders joined for four days or from 4 to 7 June 2024 in Emilia Hotel.

“We hope every smallholder that join this training should pay attention. Do not be shy to ask to the trainers. Get as much as you would to know to your home and spread to your friends that did not get the same chance,” Hendratmojo Bagus said.

Just like Hendratmojo, Agus Darwa said that the training would be the way of South Sumatera Province to escalate the smallholders’ knowledge about the finance. “We hope you could inform others in South Sumatera and many would realize that it would be important to have good organization within good administration,” Agus Darwa said.
