Ministry of Agriculture and PFMA Award Scholarships to 3,000 Palm Oil Students Across 23 Universities

PALMOILMAGAZINE, YOGYAKARTA – The Ministry of Agriculture, through the Directorate General of Plantations and with support from the Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (PO PFMA), has launched a technical recommendation for the Palm Oil Plantation Human Resource Development (POPHRD) scholarship program. This initiative aims to provide scholarships to 3,000 students directly involved in Indonesia’s palm oil industry.

Heru Tri Widarto, General Director in Duty of Plantations at the Ministry of Agriculture, explained that the scholarships will cover various educational levels, from Diploma 1 to undergraduate degrees, at 23 universities offering palm oil-related courses.

“This reflects the government’s commitment to developing skilled human resources in the palm oil sector. The scholarships are designed to cultivate top talent ready to contribute effectively to the industry,” Heru said, as reported by Palmoilmagazine.com from the official Facebook page of Ditjenbun on September 8, 2024.

At the Orientasi Kampus dan Kenal Kebun (OKKBUN) event last Monday, Hendratmojo Bagus Hudoro, Director of Plantation Protection, representing the Acting General Director, noted that the scholarships are intended to enhance the knowledge, skills, professionalism, and competitiveness of planters, including their families involved in the palm oil industry.

The scholarship would focus not only on developing academy but also to deliver them practical skills and professionalism needed in these industries. It is hoped that the graduate would be able to face the challenges globally and significantly contribute to increase palm oil competition from Indonesia in the global markets.

This would be the same with the efforts of the government to support sustainable palm oil industries nationally by developing competent and competitive human resources. It is hoped to be the motor to develop more professional and sustainable palm oil industries in the future.

With the supports from the two institutions, the program should always be going on and developing, delivering long term – advantages for palm oil industries and escalating the planters’ welfare and the workers involved in. (P2)
