PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA — The Indonesian Oil Palm Smallholders’ Forum Foundation (FORTASBI) has completed a critical phase of organizational strengthening through its Organizational Effectiveness (OE) Program, supported by the Packard Foundation from December 2021 to March 2025. This initiative marked a turning point for the organization in its transformation toward more professional, transparent, and long-term-oriented governance.

The OE Program significantly impacted FORTASBI’s internal systems and improved services to its members and partners. Key achievements included strengthening institutional frameworks and shifting from project-based operations to structured internal procedures.

“Since our founding in 2014, we mostly operated based on project needs. With Packard’s support, we restructured the organization, developed a strategic plan, and implemented internal standards,” said a FORTASBI representative, quoted from their official website.

One major transformation involved financial management. Previously reliant on manual processes, FORTASBI now operates with a more efficient and accountable financial system using internal tools and the Sango platform. These tools assist in generating regular reports and monitoring fund usage. The organization also introduced annual budgeting and designed a cost-recovery strategy to ensure long-term financial sustainability.

As the OE program concludes, FORTASBI enters a new phase—better equipped to support sustainable smallholder oil palm practices in Indonesia. This success highlights how institutional support can strengthen grassroots movements and scale impact at the national level. (P2)
