PALMOILMAGAZINE, PONTIANAK – The Provincial Government of West Kalimantan (Kalbar) took a progressive step in the development of a sustainable palm oil industry by signing a Joint Agreement with the Solidaridad Network Indonesia Foundation. This cooperation aims to create a strategic partnership to support sustainable commodities that are environmentally friendly while encouraging sustainable economic growth.
The agreement was signed by the Acting Governor of West Kalimantan, Harrison and Solidaridad’s Country Manager, Yeni Fitriyanti, as a continuation of the previous cooperation. The agreement is valid for the next five years and covers a range of important initiatives to realize more responsible palm oil governance.
Some of the key aspects of this collaboration include, Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Reduction, by supporting Indonesia’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) targets.

Human resource capacity building, which helps farmers and other stakeholders improve their ability to manage sustainable palm oil. Sustainable commodity production, by prioritizing sustainability and inclusiveness in palm oil production, in line with West Kalimantan’s economic priorities.
And joint progress monitoring, through the provision of a monitoring system to ensure environmentally friendly governance in the agriculture, plantation and forestry sectors.

The Acting Governor of West Kalimantan, Harrison, stated that this step shows the commitment of the local government to balance economic benefits and environmental sustainability. “This agreement is an important step to ensure that the palm oil industry in West Kalimantan is not only economically profitable, but also environmentally responsible,” Harrison said, in his statement quoted by Palmoilmagazine.com, Sunday (8/12/2024).
Solidaridad Country Manager, Yeni Fitriyanti, emphasized the importance of this collaboration for the sustainability of the palm oil industry in West Kalimantan. “This strategic collaboration reflects a joint commitment between the Regional Government and development partners in supporting a highly competitive palm oil industry, building a sustainable palm oil supply chain, and contributing to improving the livelihoods of oil palm farmers,” Yeni said.
