PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA — Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) recorded strong performance in the first half of 2025, achieving higher-than-targeted oil and gas output, expanding renewable energy use, and accelerating electricity access to remote areas.
At a press conference in Jakarta on Monday (Aug 11), Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said the results align with President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita agenda, particularly energy self-sufficiency and downstream industrialization. “These measures are concrete proof of the government’s commitment to securing energy for the people’s welfare,” Bahlil stated, as quoted by Palmoilmagazine.com on Thursday (Aug 14, 2025).
In the oil and gas sector, production showed a positive trend. Cumulative oil and gas output reached 111.9% of the 2025 state budget target. Oil production in June 2025 stood at 608,100 barrels per day, surpassing the target of 605,000 barrels per day (100.5%). Average production for the first half of the year reached 602,400 barrels per day, or 99.5% of target.
“In June, production exceeded the state budget target of 605,000 barrels—now at 608,000. This is a remarkable achievement. God willing, in 2025 we will meet the APBN target, for the first time since 2008,” Bahlil said at the Ministry’s headquarters.
Strong progress was also seen in biodiesel consumption from crude palm oil (CPO). By June 2025, domestic biodiesel use reached 6.8 million kiloliters (kl), out of an annual target of 15.6 million kl. The program delivered significant economic benefits, including foreign exchange savings of USD 3.68 billion (around IDR 60.37 trillion) from reduced diesel imports, as well as an added value of IDR 9.51 trillion from processing CPO into biodiesel.
