PALMOILMAGAZINE, PALANGKARAYA – To promote sustainability in the palm oil sector, PT Bank Kalteng and USAID’s Sustainable Environmental Governance Across Regions (SEGAR) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at Swiss-Belhotel Danum in Palangka Raya.

The agreement was inaugurated by Maslipansyah, the acting director of PT Bank Kalteng, and attended by key officials, including Rizky Ramadhana Badjuri, Head of the Plantation Agency of Central Kalimantan Province.

This MoU marks a significant collaboration between PT Bank Kalteng and USAID SEGAR aimed at developing green funding initiatives in the environmental palm oil sector. The partnership focuses on promoting sustainable agricultural practices, preserving natural conservation areas, and ensuring economic development is balanced with environmental stewardship.

According to PT Bank Kalteng’s 2023 sustainable financial report, the bank has financed nine palm oil businesses in the province, supporting both companies and cooperatives that prioritize environmentally friendly practices. These partners have also obtained ISPO (Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil) and RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) certifications as evidence of their commitment to sustainability.

In his speech, Rizky Ramadhana Badjuri said and supported the cooperation. “Plantation Agency of Central Kalimantan Province would support the program to optimally deliver advantages namely to welfare the people in this province,” he said, as Palmoilmagazine.com quoted from MMC Central Kalimantan, Wednesday (25/9/2024).

USAID SEGAR would be balancing the environmental conservation aspect with inclusive economic development through the program. Chief of Party USAID SEGAR, Peter Dolyle emphasized it would be significant to be part of the long term – commitment to maintain natural conservation and support the sources of living of the local.

The event was attended by some officials, stakeholders, such as, director in duty of Forestry and Water Natural Conservation in Ministry of National Development Plan/National Development Plan Agency, head of Otoritas Jasa Keuangan, head of Indonesian Bank, Central Kalimantan, representatives of Indonesian Palm Oil Association Central Kalimantan, some cooperation, such as, KUD Tani Makmur. The collaboration should be the real sample to encourage palm oil sectors heading to sustainability and escalate the people’s life in the province. (P2)
