PALMOILMAGAZINE, KUALA LUMPUR – For SD Guthrie, success in the palm oil industry is not merely about financial gain but about building holistic well-being. The company believes that a truly sustainable palm oil sector can only be achieved when economic value grows hand in hand with social welfare and environmental preservation.

According to Guthrie, sustainable palm oil is a comprehensive concept—balancing productivity with social and environmental responsibility. Business success, therefore, should not only be measured by company profits but also by how far its benefits reach local communities and the ecosystems surrounding its plantations.

This principle aligns with the vision of Datuk Mohamad Helmy Othman Basha, Group Managing Director of SD Guthrie and Chairman of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), who emphasizes that sustainability in the palm oil industry can only be realized through cross-sector collaboration.

“The success of sustainable palm oil brings prosperity to many,” Helmy said during his address at RT2025 in Kuala Lumpur, as quoted by Palmoilmagazine.com on Monday (Nov 3, 2025).

He added that Malaysia has demonstrated concrete efforts to build a responsible palm oil ecosystem—from plantation management to environmentally friendly downstream processing.

Through a range of initiatives, Guthrie and its partners strive to ensure the implementation of best practices across the entire supply chain. This includes the adoption of sustainability certifications, training programs for smallholders, and conservation projects aimed at protecting biodiversity around its operational areas.

Such a collaborative approach is seen as a key foundation for maintaining the competitiveness of palm oil in the global market, especially as consumers increasingly prioritize sustainability and social accountability in the products they choose.

For Guthrie, sustainability is not a passing trend but the direction for the industry’s future.
“We believe that community well-being can only be achieved when everyone takes part. Collaboration is the key,” Helmy affirmed.

With this spirit, SD Guthrie, together with stakeholders across the palm oil value chain, continues to promote Malaysia’s palm oil sector as a global benchmark for best practices, where profitability, environmental stewardship, and social welfare move forward together toward a sustainable future.
