PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – Amid the bustle of the RSPO Annual Roundtable Conference on Sustainable Palm Oil 2025 (RT2025) in Kuala Lumpur, Henky Satrio Wibowo moved with quiet composure. Just days earlier, he had been appointed Sustainability Director of PT Sawit Sumbermas Sarana Tbk (SSMS), marking a new chapter in his long journey in the field of sustainability.
As participants navigated the crowded conference halls, Henky stood out not for grand gestures, but for his calm presence. Dressed simply, without unnecessary accessories, he seemed unhurried by the fast-paced rhythm of the international forum. There was no fanfare when he greeted colleagues—only the steady gaze of someone who has walked a long road defined by one guiding principle: sustainability.
October 2025 became a defining milestone in his career. Henky officially assumed the strategic position of Sustainability Director at SSMS, placing him at the center of the company’s sustainable transformation agenda. Within SSMS, he is no stranger. Colleagues describe him as meticulous, consistent, and firm in upholding values. Not one for excessive talk, he is known instead for seeing tasks through to completion.

“I always carry out my work with full responsibility,” he said in a brief conversation during the conference. A short sentence, delivered without dramatics. Yet for those familiar with his path, it reflects years of discipline, dedication, and unwavering vision.
Henky entered the palm oil industry in earnest in 2021—what some might consider a late start. But that “late entry” came with a significant advantage: 22 years of experience in both national and international NGOs. His background spans not only strategic documentation and policy advocacy, but also direct engagement with social issues—children’s welfare, public health, community empowerment, anti-corruption, indigenous rights, environmental protection, and climate change.
This foundation enabled him to quickly grasp the complexities of the palm oil sector—understanding its challenges, mapping risks, and crafting solutions that address root causes rather than surface symptoms. He brought a fresh perspective to integrating sustainability principles into core business practices.
Henky’s transition from NGO activism to corporate leadership reflects a broader reality: sustainable transformation in the palm oil industry demands not just compliance, but conviction. And conviction is built over time—through experience, values, and the courage to step into spaces where impact can scale. (P1)
