IPB University Rector Prof. Dr. Arif Satria welcomed the partnership with APN, expressing hopes that the university could play a vital role in the company’s research and development efforts. “We have many students and professors who can contribute to palm oil research,” said Prof. Arif.

This partnership reflects a significant synergy between academia and industry, aligning IPB’s academic excellence in agricultural education with APN’s role as a state-owned enterprise committed to sustainable plantation management and downstream industry development.

Also present at the MoU signing were Edi Slamet Irianto, APN’s Director of Business and Industrial Development, and R. Wisnoe Prasetja Boedi, APN’s President Commissioner. From IPB University, in addition to Rector Prof. Arif Satria, notable attendees included Prof. Dr. Ir. Sudrajat, M.Sc., a senior professor in the Faculty of Agriculture and head of IPB’s Mini Palm Oil Processing Lab Team, along with other academic representatives.

The MoU outlines five main areas of collaboration: education, research, community service, plantation and agroindustry development, and other mutually agreed initiatives.

Scope of the Collaboration Includes:

  • Education and community outreach
  • Joint research in agronomy, horticulture, animal husbandry, plant protection, soil science, and agroclimatology
  • Palm oil processing and downstream product development
  • Advancement of biorefineries, biomass, fertilizers, and intercropping systems
  • Agricultural economics, plasma development, and feed management
  • Capacity building through training and extension programs

The partnership also extends to the development of high-value commodities such as tea, sugarcane, cocoa, rubber, and coffee. Additional focus areas include oleochemical production, irrigation systems, and environmental sustainability, as well as consultation services and technical activities for plantation product downstreaming.

This strategic collaboration reinforces Agrinas Palma Nusantara’s position as a driver of innovation in oil palm cultivation and its related industries. It also supports the development of an integrated agricultural ecosystem, including palm-cattle integration, biogas utilization, dryland rice farming, and the implementation of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) based on research and innovation.

A key goal of the partnership is to strengthen human resource capacity through technical and academic training programs.

This initiative exemplifies the spirit of Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi — education, research, and community service — developed collaboratively between IPB University and PT Agrinas Palma Nusantara. The aim is to foster a more inclusive, competitive, and sustainable national plantation sector.

The strategic alliance is also expected to accelerate Indonesia’s agroindustrial transformation toward food and energy security, based on environmentally responsible use of local resources.
