Malaysia’s palm oil exports jumped 33.51%–37.73% in the first 10 days of October, supporting CPO futures on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives. In Indonesia, the KPBN Inacom CPO tender held at IDR 14,988/kg despite being withdrawn.

PALMOILMAGAZINE, KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysian crude palm oil (CPO) futures extended gains on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives on Friday (Oct. 16, 2026), supported by stronger palm oil export shipments during the first 10 days of October.

Further along the curve, the February 2027 contract climbed RM37 to RM4,852 per ton. The March 2027 contract increased RM27 to RM4,926 per ton, while April 2027 rose RM17 to RM4,984 per ton.

The gains came as early-October export data pointed to stronger shipments from Malaysia, reinforcing market sentiment amid relatively stable futures trading activity.

Malaysia Palm Oil Exports Jump Up to 37.73%

Data from cargo surveyor Amspec Agri Malaysia showed that Malaysian palm oil exports reached 491,954 tons during Oct. 1–10, 2026. The figure was up 37.73%, or 134,760 tons, from 357,194 tons recorded during the same period in September.

Independent inspection company Intertek Testing Services reported a similar trend, putting Malaysian palm oil exports at 525,071 tons during the first 10 days of October. That represented a 33.51% increase, or an additional 131,776 tons, from 393,295 tons during Oct. 1–10 in the previous month.

Both reports pointed to a significant increase in Malaysian palm oil shipments at the start of October. Export data are closely watched by market participants as an indicator of demand and trade flows from one of the world’s leading palm oil producers.

Still, the direction of CPO prices will depend on a broader set of fundamentals, including global demand, vegetable oil inventories, competing edible oil prices and production prospects in major producing countries.

Trading Volume Eases as Open Interest Rises

Trading activity was relatively steady on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives. CPO futures volume fell slightly to 133,428 lots on Friday from 133,700 lots on Thursday (Oct. 15).

Open interest, however, increased to 339,364 contracts from 333,964 contracts previously, indicating an increase in outstanding positions in the futures market.

In the physical market, the October CPO delivery price in Southern Malaysia rose RM60 to RM4,500 per ton.

The gains in both futures and physical CPO markets were broadly in line with the stronger export data from Malaysia. However, the market outlook will continue to depend on whether export demand can be sustained, alongside developments in global vegetable oil fundamentals.
