Launched in August 2021, the National Mission on Edible Oils–Oil Palm (NMEO-OP) seeks to promote the growth of oil palm cultivation and establish a sustainable supply chain ecosystem for the sector. By focusing on increasing domestic CPO production, the mission aims to reduce India’s reliance on edible oil imports while delivering economic and social benefits to farmers.

A key component of the initiative is providing farmers with viability price support, making oil palm cultivation more lucrative. This support is expected to accelerate the adoption of oil palm plantations nationwide, with the long-term goal of achieving self-sufficiency in edible oil production. (P2)
