PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – The Regency of Lamandau in Central Kalimantan Province now boasts a premier palm oil education and breeding center, attracting many smallholders and locals interested in high-quality seeds. Located in the Village of Kujan, Bulik Subdistrict, the Benih Sawit Center Sidonata (BSCS) offers a variety of superior palm oil seeds and serves as a hub for cultivation education.

Arigato Sidonata, the founder of BSCS, stated that the center spans approximately six hectares along Jalan Trans Kalimantan KM 4, making it easily accessible for educational purposes. “Here, people can learn about superior seeds from various breeders, observe the sprouting process, and gain insights into optimal breeding techniques and plantation maintenance for better yields,” Arigato shared in an official statement to Palmoilmagazine.com on Saturday, October 19, 2024.

BSCS serves as a showcase for palm oil seeds, featuring numerous superior varieties for public display. The center also cultivates plant collections from several leading breeders, including PT Bina Sawit Makmur, PPKS Medan, and PT ASD Bakrie. Each variety is represented by 2-3 trees as samples, allowing visitors to examine the available high-quality seeds.

According to Arigato, BSCS currently maintains around 160,000 stalks, including varieties such as D x P Sriwijaya 5 semiklon, D x P Simalungun, D x P Sriwijaya 4, and D x P Sriwijaya 5. This extensive collection provides planters with access to superior seeds, enhancing their plantation productivity and overall production.

The regional government did support it. Head of Plantation and Fishery Regency of Lamandau, Tiryan Kuderon, S.Pi, M.M., did welcome BSCS to get developed and it should increase the people’s insight, not only in the regency but also in the province. “This would reinforce the reputation of Lamandau as the qualified palm oil seed center in Central Kalimantan and we would even supply the seeds to West Kalimantan Province,” he said.
