Malaysian CPO Prices Rise, Driven by a Surge in Global Crude Oil Prices

PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – Crude palm oil (CPO) prices on the Malaysian Derivatives Exchange closed higher on Monday (April 13, 2026), supported by a sharp rise in global crude oil prices amid escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

According to Bernama, most CPO contracts posted gains during the session. The May 2026 contract rose by RM11 to RM4,511 per ton, while the June 2026 contract increased by RM17 to RM4,555 per ton. The upward trend continued with the July 2026 contract climbing RM21 to RM4,572 per ton.

Further gains were seen in the August 2026 contract, which rose RM27 to RM4,566 per ton, and the September 2026 contract, up RM29 to RM4,549 per ton. However, the April 2026 contract bucked the trend, declining by RM41 to close at RM4,450 per ton.

Trading activity showed a slight increase, with volume edging up to 66,741 lots from 66,606 lots in the previous Friday session. Despite this, open interest declined from 258,033 contracts to 256,371 contracts, indicating profit-taking among market participants.

Meanwhile, the physical CPO price for April remained steady at RM4,580 per ton.

In Indonesia’s domestic market, CPO prices monitored through PT Kharisma Pemasaran Bersama Nusantara (KPBN) recorded a withdraw (WD), with the highest bid reaching Rp15,635 per kilogram on Monday (April 13, 2026). This reflects an increase of around Rp46/kg, or 0.30%, compared to the previous Friday (April 10, 2026).

Looking ahead, global CPO prices are expected to remain influenced by energy market movements and geopolitical developments, which may keep volatility elevated in the near term. (P2)
