Malaysia’s benchmark CPO futures fell 0.3% to RM4,687 per ton despite stronger export estimates, while Rotterdam CPO declined US$20 per ton and KPBN Inacom’s top domestic tender price rose 1.42% to IDR 15,100/kg.
PALMOILMAGAZINE, KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysian crude palm oil (CPO) futures extended their decline to a third consecutive trading session on Wednesday (Oct. 28, 2026), despite expectations of stronger palm oil exports and increased buying ahead of India’s Diwali celebrations.
The benchmark CPO futures contract for January 2027 on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives fell RM14 per ton, or 0.3%, to RM4,687 per ton at the close, equivalent to about US$1,149.90 per ton, according to Reuters.
The decline came despite improving export prospects. Cargo surveyors estimated that Malaysia’s palm oil product exports for Oct. 1–25 increased by between 46.9% and 67.7% from the previous month.
The stronger export performance points to resilient demand, including the potential for higher purchases from India ahead of Diwali. However, the improvement in demand was not sufficient to lift CPO futures at the close.
Crude Oil Rises as Vegetable Oils Trade Mixed
Crude oil prices rose more than 1% as an attack on an oil refinery in Saudi Arabia renewed concerns over supply risks amid the ongoing Middle East conflict.
Higher crude oil prices can improve the relative attractiveness of palm oil as a feedstock for biodiesel. However, the impact on CPO prices remains dependent on a broader combination of supply, demand and competition from other vegetable oils.

Trading in other vegetable oil markets was mixed.
On the Dalian Commodity Exchange, the most-active soybean oil contract gained 0.65%, while the most-active palm oil contract fell 0.4%. Soybean oil futures on the Chicago Board of Trade declined 0.24%.
The divergent moves underscore the competing forces shaping the global vegetable oil complex, including export demand, supply expectations, energy prices and inter-commodity competition.
Rotterdam CPO Prices Fall US$20 per Ton
CPO prices on the Rotterdam market also weakened on Wednesday.
The November CPO contract fell US$20 per ton to US$1,550, while the December contract declined by the same amount to US$1,570 per ton.

The increase in Indonesia’s physical tender market contrasted with the weakness in Malaysian futures, highlighting differences in pricing dynamics across the three markets.
While Bursa Malaysia declined for a third consecutive session and Rotterdam prices weakened, KPBN Inacom’s domestic CPO tender strengthened as export prospects for Malaysian palm oil improved.
The contrasting moves underline the increasingly complex signals facing the palm oil market, with export demand, energy prices, vegetable oil competition and regional physical-market conditions all influencing price direction. (P3)
