PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, Head of the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), announced in a press conference held at the CBS Headquarters in Jakarta that inflation has risen over the past three months, starting in early 2024. This update was provided to highlight the progress of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in March 2024, on Monday (1/4/2024).
March 2024 witnessed an inflationary trend coinciding with Ramadan, surpassing the levels observed in February 2024. Widyasanti noted that compared to previous years (excluding 2022), this year’s Ramadan inflation stood relatively higher, reaching 0.52%.
Food, beverages, and tobacco emerged as the primary contributors to the month-to-month (m-to-m) inflation in March 2024, registering at 0.41%. Certain commodities such as eggs, poultry meat, cayenne pepper, garlic, and onions were noted to have contributed to the inflationary pressures. However, others like red chili, tomatoes, and airfare managed to mitigate the inflationary effects.

Amalia continued the main contributors in March 2024 inflation year on year derived from food, drink, and tobacco that reached 2,09%. “The commodities as the main factors in the inflation, were rice, hen meat, red chili, machine cigarettes, and eggs,” she said, as in the official statement to Palmoilmagazine.com, Tuesday (2/4/2024).
The increasing inflation pressure namely from food group, raised challenges to get stable economy and people’s buying capability. In this context, it is significant to manage inflation to maintain the economic balance nationally.
