PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA – While halal certification introduces new requirements, particularly in traceability, it plays a crucial role in ensuring that fresh fruit bunches (FFB) processed are not stolen, are clean (free from contaminants like dirt or animal feces), and that all supporting materials used in production are halal.
Although the introduction of halal certification may spark debate, it adds significant value to palm oil products. The certification ensures quality and cleanliness, providing additional advantages in global trade.
To implement halal product guarantees, the government has enacted several regulations, including Law Number 33 of 2014 on Halal Product Assurance. This law governs the implementation of halal certification in Indonesia and mandates that certain products must be halal-certified.
It is hoped, the consumers would be safer to consume and use every product that has halal guarantee.
On the other hand, halal food markets could be significantly increasing because of the increasing demands from Moslem and non-Moslem consumers. This progress could have something to do with the cleanliness, including being free from the dirt, alcohol, and blood.
Indonesia where the Moslem people live the most in Asia, or about 88,1% of the total population, reaches 12,7% of the Moslem population in the world, would keep increasing. The significant increasing Moslem consumers would deliver impacts for gross domestic product and have something to do with the consumers’ behavior. The Moslem consumers should choose, purchase, and use halal products.
These would have something to do with the economy in Indonesia. They could spend about US$ 190,4 billion in food sector. The guarantee of halal product would deliver comfort, safe feeling, and certainty for the available halal products to be taken for advantages. This would escalate additional values for the business (men). (P2)
