PALMOILMAGAZINE, ACEH SINGKIL – The Regency of Aceh Singkil and various stakeholders have reached a consensus on the Regency of Aceh Singkil Sustainable Palm Oil Governance Landscape Vision for 2024-2026.

This was formalized through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and the launch of a multiparty forum dashboard dedicated to natural resource cultivation to support sustainable practices in the region.

The MoU was signed by the Regency of Aceh Singkil, Kesatuan Pengelolaan Hutan VI (KPH VI), Yayasan Inisiatif Dagang Hijau (YIDH), Yayasan Ekosistem Lestari, Forum Konservasi Leuser, Swisscontact, Yayasan Hutan Tropis, PT. Koltiva, PT. Sari Dumai Sejati (Apical), PT. Musim Mas, Asosiasi Petani Kelapa Sawit Indonesia (Apkasindo) Aceh Singkil, and Apkasindo Perjuangan, Aceh Singkil.

This agreement serves as a foundation for stakeholders to optimize the region’s development through a jurisdictional landscape vision approach in Aceh Singkil. The vision comprises four main pillars: environment, sustainable economy, social, and governance.

  • Environment: Focuses on protecting forest ecosystems and enhancing natural conservation.
  • Economy: Aims to improve palm oil plantation productivity and smallholders’ welfare.
  • Social: Emphasizes multi-party inclusivity to address social gaps and conflicts.
  • Sustainable Governance: Supports the administration and structures necessary for sustainable palm oil action plans.

“The signing of the MoU and the launching of multi-party forum dashboard with natural resource cultivation would be the real commitments of Regency of Aceh Singkil to make the regency as sustainable jurisdiction within optimal plantation productivity and maximal protection on forest ecosystem, particularly Rawa Singkil Sanctuary,” Regent in duty of Aceh Singkil, Azmi M.A.P., said, as in the official statement to Palmoilmagazine.com, Monday (8/7/2024).

Regency of Aceh Singkil has palm oil plantations that lay on about 77.512 hectares that the companies and smallholders cultivate. They contributed 31,8 percent to gross regional domestic income in agriculture, forestry, and fishery sub sectors. The regency would be part of Rawa Singkil Sanctuary where Sumatran tiger, Sumatran elephant, and Sumatran orangutan live.

“Our company is committed to fully realize no deforestation, no peat, and no exploitation (NDPE) policy 100% in our supply chains by 2024. Signing the MoU would be contributing to realize the target,” Corporate Social Responsibility Manager of PT. Sari Dumai Sejati (Apical), Sugiantoro said.

Aceh Singkil landscape vision determined to escalate palm oil plantation productivity up to 30 percent through intensification. It would be hoped to improve the local’s economy where poverty numbers are still high.

Meanwhile, multi-party forum dashboard on natural resource cultivation would be about to monitor and confirm every implementation indicator of the landscape vision and would also contribute to realize the targets in the regency.

The dashboard would watch and measure the performance of many parties in their natural resource cultivation and other sustainable commodities. It would confirm the realization of indicator achievement in sustainable palm oil regional action plan or Rencana Aksi Daerah Kelapa Sawit Berkelanjutan (RAD-KSB).

“The smallholders in Aceh Singkil hoped that the MoU and the launching would escalate palm oil plantation productivity and income for the smallholders,” Chairman of Apkasindo Aceh Singkil, Agus Wanda Maik said.

Meanwhile, Program Manager Swisscontact Indonesia, Christina Rini said that the developer partners and the regional government should complete one to another on the targets in landscape vision, should monitor every progress in the dashboard that every party has developed. “The dashboard would be as the monitoring system within its measurement and also showing every commitment to make Aceh Singkil go forward,” Rini said.

Head of Sectors Koltiva, Mochamad Fachreza hoped that dashboard with the supporting system of KoltiTrace would accommodate every forum member in their report, measure, monitor the same initiative development to realize landscape vision or RAD-KSB that the region mandated.

Aceh Singkil landscape vision was decided by having collaborative process. It involved local communities, provincial and national – scale authorities, the private, and non-government/civil organizations. Forum Pengelolaan Sumber Daya Alam (FPSDA) and Environment Agency of Regency of Aceh Singkil facilitated every discussion until deciding sustainable palm oil governance indicators and get multi-parti forum dashboard on natural resource cultivation.

“Aceh Singkil Landscape Vision should be the reference for many stakeholders and smallholders to implement sustainable palm oil cultivation practices, minimize deforestation, escalate palm oil plantation productivity,” Chairman of Yayasan Inisiatif Dagang Hijau, Nassat Idris said. (T2)
